Memory 34
Trivial Positive: Norbert's guitar recital
Won: Day 177
Game: Ratatoskr refuses
Summary
Tan, age 9, has Norbert and Rena over at his house. He's showing them Dragon's Shield (part 2 of the Dragon's Arms RPG series) - it may be a single player video game, but you can have three party members so when they started a new file they each picked one and named it after themselves (Tan's the warrior, Norbert's the cleric, Rena's the archer), and at any given time one of them is at the controller while the other two play backseat driver. They're having a lot of fun.
Alas, the time catches up with them, and Norbert's mother rings the doorbell to bring him and Rena home. So they say their see you tomorrows, and then Norbert suddenly remembers he had a thing he wanted to ask. He's been taking guitar lessons, see, and this weekend he's going to have a recital, and he'd really like it if his best friends would come.
Rena says she'll have to ask her parents but she'd really like to. Tan is almost in the same boat, but conveniently this is when his father (finally, he's late, as usual) pulls into the driveway. As he comes inside, he greets everyone who's getting ready to leave, and Tan asks him excitedly if he can go to Norbert's recital this weekend. But his father uncomfortably frowns and says that while he'd love to let him, there's an important work thing this weekend that he can't not attend, so he can't drive him.
But luckily Norbert's mother offers to provide transportation, which Tan's father finds acceptable, so he's able to go after all!
Fast forward to that weekend, and Tan and Rena sit together in the audience while they listen to about ten music students performing. ...Most of them aren't that great, admittedly, but they're kids their age, and Tan and Rena aren't critics anyway. They're all enjoyable.
Norbert, though.
Norbert is amazing. Everyone else has one piece, alongside the group piece at the end, but Norbert gets two because he is just that good. Kind of the star of the music shop. And the even more amazing thing is, he doesn't stick out like a sore thumb in the group piece, and yet nor does he lower himself to the others' levels. Somehow he just blends that well.
And after it's over and the three friends find each other and Tan and Rena get to tell him how much they enjoyed it and how much he was amazing~, Norbert's mother takes them out for hot dogs for dinner. A great end to a great day.
What He Learns
☼ Norbert has always been a prodigy when it comes to music
☼ Being an Angel of Sound probably has to do with that, but still
☼ Dragon's Shield
☼ Tan's father's work-a-holic tendencies continue to be annoying and rude
☼ But Norbert's mother is nice :)
Notes
I'm going to say that Norbert's two solo songs are this and this. ...Both of those songs existed in 2000 okay.
