Memory 46

Significant Negative: Lightning's Gift
Won: Day 215
Game: REX POWER

Summary
First of all, this memory is weird in a couple of ways. It takes place from both Sol and Fiere's points of view, which are simultaneous and yet separate. Also, Tan's point of view is sound only, because he can't see anything. It's pitch black.

Or, well, he can't see anything ultimately because his eyes are closed and he can't move. But, you know, same difference. He feels like he's lying down on his chest somewhere, and has been for a while, but breathing is about all he can manage.

Fiere can see, not that there's much to see. He's wandering fairly aimlessly, a heavy formless weight on his back slowing him down as he goes. He actually finds his way to a village of little imp-like spirits - though, just because they look demonic means nothing, they're actually known for being quite gentle. There's a small commotion outside one hut, so Fiere wanders closer...

but then he can -feel- it, and he freezes. Tan is in there, he can feel it.

This is bad. He hasn't gotten rid of it yet, he can't meet him again yet, this is bad.

Just because Tan can't move, however, doesn't mean he can't hear anything, or feel anything. And so he feels something scaly slithering next to him, and can hear it talking to him. A male voice.

"Well well. Look what we have here. This isn't good, not at all."

The scaly thing (a snake?) seems to ponder to itself for a bit before apologizing. From the look of it, things have progressed too far. It's too dangerous to wait any longer, and this is the only solution he knows how to do on such short notice.

Tan can feel the probably-snake drawing patterns on his skin as it explains that it's going to make the preparations now, and that it's imperative that the moment he has any sort of consciousness, he must activate it by saying... well, something blurred in this memory. Once the split occurs, he'll have one shot to cleanse everything. (Not that Tan, at this point, understands any of what the probably-snake is blabbering about, but it's not like he can move.)

"No guarantee it'll work, but... well, if anyone has a shot at it, it's you. Since you're her son, and all. Maybe you can do what I could not."

...Then the probably-snake apologizes again, saying something about it being too dangerous to let it access everything, but it'll only work if he thinks he's in that state, so faking it will have to do... and then the next thing Tan feels is two deep cuts down his back, as though gouged with an electrically charged knife. If he could scream, he would. The memory is unclear whether he manages to or not, because ow.

Fiere tries to flee the village. He can't stay this close to Tan, he can't risk everything having been for naught...

"Going somewhere?"

But he's stopped in his path by a snake. ...A rosy boa, so a little snake, but still a snake. One who happens to be sparking with electricity.

"I'm sorry it has to come to this. But this is the only way."

"What are you doing??" Fiere asks, backing up. Not drawing on fire, not giving the Null he carries access to it.

"Saving as many as I can."

And with a speed that Fiere can't match, with the weight he carries, the snake pierces Fiere with its tail and floods him with electricity.

Ordinarily, this would kill someone. But because Fiere is half of an Angel, his existence flows back to his human instead.

...As does the Null he's been trying to keep away from Tan for years.

Tan is still reeling from the wound on his back when everything comes flooding in. In his mind, he can barely see a fox-like form come in first, a tidal wave of darkness following behind. But he can't make anything out before the fox forcefully pushes his mind away, into the depths of unconsciousness. It feels like being dunked underwater, except not quite in a drowning way.

And Fiere, only able to ensure that his human remains untouched by the darkness, is the one consumed instead.

It hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts

and all he can see is red, and all he can think is a single phrase.

Everything has to burn.

What He Learns
☼ SO THAT HAPPENED.
☼ He was in a place where he couldn't see or move
☼ but there was this snake
☼ it sounds (and looks) just like Mr. Thompson's snake, ftr
☼ (that's because it is)
☼ and the snake was saying something about how what he was doing was the only way to fix things
☼ and he basically taught him how to break his soul, essentially
☼ and told him to do it when he first got the opportunity
☼ those slashes on his back were the snake's doing
☼ something about faking something to trick something into something?
☼ but then
☼ snake dude goes and kills Fiere
☼ who is carrying a ton of Null for some reason
☼ and trying to keep it away from Tan
☼ but snake forces Fiere to go into Tan
☼ so Fiere does the only thing he can
☼ which is to force Tan into the depths of his mind and knock him out that soundly
☼ and then Fiere gets overcome by Null
☼ ...and that's how we got to possessed murder funtimes.

Notes
Heart Shatter only works if the user is in full Angel form... or at least can make a reasonable argument in their subconscious that they must be. Because all three parts have to be up at the surface, you see. So the snake cut those gashes in order to make his subconscious rationalize that he totally is supposed to have the wings, they were just cut off or something. (Given the emergency at hand, it didn't take much subconscious convincing, honestly...)
