Memory 8
Positive Neutral: meeting Kim and Laura
Won: Day 82
Game: space opera
Summary
Tan is standing at the top of a huge waterfall in the forest, looking down in awe. At that point, though, he hears the meow of a cat, and when he turns his head, he sees a white kitten sitting on a rock nearby, looking at him almost expectantly. Tan has apparently been looking for this cat for a while, because he attempts to creep up to it and catch it, but it jumps out of the way before he can pounce, ending with him flat on his face on the rock.
As he's recovering from that, he hears a girl's voice praising the kitten, and when he looks up, he sees Kim. Well, from context now he knows it's Kim anyway, but at the time he only knows this girl as the girl who asked him to chase down her cat. When he says as much and sardonically comments that she doesn't seem to have had much trouble catching it herself, she says that he wouldn't have come if she'd just asked her to follow her.
Tan pouts a little as he pulls himself up, but Kim just calls for her sister. "Nee-chan! The boy you told me about came after all!" Laura then comes out after a minute from behind a tree, clutching her notebook, and Kim introduces the two of them to Tan, not neglecting to mention that Laura is her big sister and also doesn't talk. Laura holds out her hand for a friendly handshake, and Tan, who is notably confused by the whole thing, accepts it, though when he does, as soon as their hands touch, Laura... double takes, for a minute? Tan isn't sure what it is, and when he questions it, she just shakes her head and smiles warmly.
At this point, Tan asks Kim just what it is they dragged him out here for anyway, since obviously it was so important that they couldn't have just talked about it there (ie where he was before). Kim's response is that "you're one of our nakama!", which she reluctantly clarifies when Tan gives her a blank stare that her sister thinks that he has special powers too.
Too, as in with a wave of Kim's hands and a sprinkle of dust she suddenly sprouts cat ears from her head. Her power is to makes golems, including the white kitten, which mews and disappears in bronze sparkles and a small amount of dirt. Laura, meanwhile, has power over metal, which she demonstrates by taking a small metal orb and morphing it into a star-like shape with just a touch. (The necklace she's wearing happens to glow a little during this, but nobody really comments at the time.)
And since they're so convinced Tan has a power too (and he's now been shown that they're not 100% crazy, considering that their powers are real, even though if he has any himself that's news to him), they want him to help them out. Ever since they realized their powers and found their way "here" the first time, they've ended up fighting these demonic things that seem to be born from, attracted to, and empowered by negative human emotions, and want them dead for some reason, probably because they can fight them. They don't know much about them yet, but Kim dramatically comments that they have found out their name - they're called Null. (Tan then comments that that's a lame name, and Kim retorts that it's not like she chose it.) They've managed to fight off the ones they've encountered so far, but they've gotten harder lately, and besides, if they've got more allies, they'll only find out more faster, right?
The memory cuts out about here, as Kim asks if he's following so far.
What He Learns
☼ Kim is a troll who tricked him into going where she wanted him to by claiming he needed to find her cat >_>
☼ The way the cat disappeared was oddly similar to Fiere... but she makes golems, apparently, so it's probably different?
☼ Laura somehow knew he had fire before he did.
☼ Also something happened when he and Laura shook hands...?
☼ So those demons that they were fighting at the cliff were called Null, and they're related to negative human emotions.
☼ ...Null is a dumb name. But that's what they're called.
☼ Still no bracelet, but that's to be expected considering timing context...
Notes
Trivia: Null are named after Null Pointer Exceptions in programming, because I am a dork.
