Positive Neutral: learning to sword fight

Summary
It's late spring when Tan is 13, and during a meeting of the Night Phoenixes, he notices that one of the newer members, a kid named Bobby Olin, arrives later than usual. Which is weird, because he's almost always there before even him and Norbert. So Tan just goes over to check on him, and asks if everything's okay. And Bobby just tells him it is, he just got caught up talking to his uncle after his sword fighting lesson.
Tan didn't know Bobby knew how to fight with a sword. Bobby just shyly says he's taking lessons from his uncle, and if Tan wants, he can show him some stuff some time.
This sounds super cool, obviously. So he takes him up on that.
They start out with sticks, just fallen branches that look sturdy and straight enough and have any pointy bits removed. Bobby shows him some basic techniques, which Tan picks up fairly quickly. When they have their first actual sparring match, Bobby easily trounces Tan, but Tan just takes it in stride and starts practicing harder.
Eventually one day, Bobby shows up with two practice swords, because he asked his uncle if he could borrow a couple because he was teaching a friend. The feel is much different from the sticks they'd been using, but Tan gets used to it pretty fast, and by this point he's skilled enough to tie with Bobby.
The rest of this memory is a montage of assorted practice sessions with Bobby, a few times a week. And the best part is, the practice helps them both notably improve over time.
