Memory 6

Positive Trivial: campfire bonding (Laura)
Won: Day 80
Game: prisoner's dilemma

Summary
This is something of a montage-ish thing that takes place over the course of a few evenings. The setting is various parts of that same forest, occasionally under a rock outcropping when the weather isn't great (and it does rain a few nights), but usually on the edge of a clearing or the like, by a nice campfire.

The first evening, Tan finds a bush that's got a really interesting flower on it, and decides that whenever he makes it back home, Rena would like to see it. But if he picks it, it'll probably die before he sees her again, so instead he pulls out a small sketchpad and starts to draw it. He's pretty darn good, if he does say so himself! And once he has the sketch, he starts pulling out a pocket watercolor kit to try and paint a second version... but then he notices that Laura is watching him over his shoulder. When she notices that he noticed, though, she gets shy and retreats.

The second evening, Tan pokes a little at some meat and vegetables that are cooking over the campfire, and then, when he's content that they're almost ready, he goes over to Laura to tell her. She's turned away and doing something with her notebook, so he peeks over her shoulder briefly and notices that she's trying her hand at drawing something. Just a doodle of a little cat from memory, and, well, to say she could use practice is an understatement, but Tan comments that she's pretty good, which of course causes Laura to jump a little and pull her notebook to her chest.

The third evening, Kim and John are arguing about something pertaining to dinner, so Tan is sitting off to the side with Laura while they wait for the two to come to an agreement, and he comments that he really did think she wasn't half bad at drawing and she shouldn't be so shy about it. She looks away and then asks (through writing, naturally) if he could give her some tips, since he's a lot better than she is. And so he agrees to.

The rest of this memory is a three-evening montage of Tan giving Laura art lessons. It's not a lot of time, but she picks it up pretty quickly, and by the end of the memory seems a lot more confident in her style.

What He Learns
☼ There are actual art skills in the wings!!!!!
☼ Also probably at least some cooking.
☼ Laura is still shy but a quick learner.
☼ Still no bracelet in this one.
☼ ...okay yeah the THERE WILL EVENTUALLY BE ACTUAL ART SKILLS!!!!! is really the important take-away.

Notes
Trivia: in the super first rough sketches of this little mess of mine, if I remember right, Tan was supposed to be able to tell the future through his art. While that part was obviously scrapped a looooong time ago, he kept the art skills and hobby.
