Memory 13
Negative Significant: the Dragon
Won: Day 95
Game: soccer pooooooooope
Summary
This memory follows directly from Memory 9. It still feels like something is empty and broken in Tan's soul, but his thoughts are somewhat clearer, if nothing else. The world isn't completely devoid of color at this point either, though it's still muted for the most part.
Tan climbs the mountain on the island, the fox following him. When he gets to the top, he finds what appears to be some kind of outdoor shrine or temple of some sort, with a giant brazier in the middle. This brazier has coals in it that are still smoldering, but it's obvious that there should be a giant bonfire roaring in it.
Sitting on the other side of the brazier is a giant (Western-style) dragon, its scales black and shining despite the cloud cover. He comments that Tan has finally arrived, and Tan asks who the dragon is. The dragon responds that he is the other half of Tan's soul, can he not feel it? And at that, Tan realizes that... he can, in fact, feel something, regarding the dragon, but it's muddled, and it doesn't feel right, somehow?
The dragon scowls and says that of course everything is broken, after everything that foolish fox has done. Tan looks at the fox, drawing a blank as to what it could have done, and the dragon determines that he must have blocked it from his memory, and of course decides to remind him. At this, Tan suddenly remembers against his will--
[ERROR: SCENE NOT FOUND]
--which leaves him shocked, horrified, furious, distraught, and all sorts of other negative emotions. His mind goes blank with the swirling emotions consuming him, and the dragon produces a black iron sword and gives it to Tan, saying he knows what he must do to make it right.
His body moves automatically, his mind not capable of coherency at the moment. He takes the sword, turns to the fox - who, rather than cowering, seems resigned to its fate and has its tail down in sadness - and raises the sword so as to strike with it...
but then he feels a sharp prick of cold on his wrist, and doesn't quite hear a voice, but still, words enter his mind, with a voice that he recognizes but can't place. "For heaven's sake, boy. For once in your life, think before you act."
At that, his mind suddenly has a moment of clarity, and he finds himself standing, arms up and ready to strike the fox with the sword. What happens next will be his decision, and his alone.
With that, Tan--
What He Learns
☼ Character introductions: the Dragon (no it doesn't have another name)
☼ Still feels broken. Still don't know why.
☼ That fox is still Fiere, for the record.
☼ There's a temple with a bonfire but the bonfire is almost out.
☼ There's a dragon that claims to be part of Tan's soul, but that can't be right, can it?
☼ Fiere did something?
☼ ...There's something really really bad that happened isn't there.
☼ Mystery almost-voice he almost recognizes in the memory but can't place? Unlike the one that was accompanying Laura.
☼ ...There's no way this ended with him striking Fiere, right? There's no way...
